Captain’s Welcome

A very warm welcome to Sutton Coldfield Golf Club, the custodian of a truly English heathland course which has been played on for 130 years and largely remains as Dr Alister MacKenzie re-designed it in the early 1920’s.

MacKenzie was a course architect who has designed many national and internationally renowned courses including Augusta National, home of the US Masters, Royal Melbourne, Lahinch in Ireland and Alwoodley, Leeds.

Sutton Coldfield Golf Club has hosted many tournaments, both professional and amateur over the years including in 2010, the English Amateur Championship won by 19 year old Tommy Fleetwood. More recently, the Club hosted the England Golf Seniors Series and Club Captains’ Championship.

Not only is our course noted for its golfing excellence which offers an all-year round challenge for all levels of golfer, with its free draining terrain, running cambered fairways, subtle bunkering and greens that are fast and true, it also benefits from being situated within Sutton Park, a 2,400 acre National Nature Reserve. Golfers should take time to take in the remarkable scenery, wildlife and the remains of ‘Icknield Street’, the Roman Road which bisects the course.

Before or after your round I would invite you to take advantage of our hospitality within our 19th century Clubhouse, where our staff will have a warm and friendly welcome, offering wholesome, freshly prepared food.

Both societies and visitors are always welcome.

We at Sutton Coldfield Golf Club look forward to making your visit a memorable one, a visit which we are confident you will be recommending to your golfing colleagues and friends.
