Sutton Coldfield Golf Club
Sutton Coldfield Golf Club is home to one of the best heathland courses in the Midlands and even further afield.
Originally established in 1893, the course was extensively re-constructed in the early 1920’s under the supervision of world renowned golf course architect, Dr Alister MacKenzie.
In adhering to MacKenzie’s principles that “The course should so be arranged that the long [low] handicap player or even the absolute beginner should be able to enjoy his round”, the Sutton Coldfield course offers golfers of all abilities the opportunity to experience a pleasurable few hours of sport.
The fast draining turf of the fairways allows consistent play throughout the year whilst the renowned hand mown greens are typically slick in the spring, through the summer and long into the autumn months.
Robert Rock (European Tour Player and SCGC Member) comments: “I appreciate particularly the opportunity of putting on greens that are Tour pace for much of the year”.
Considerable improvements over recent years have seen much heather rejuvenation, refurbishment and re-design of bunkers and extensive tree removal.
